Monitoring and Logging Tools
Popular observability and telemetry tools.
Popular observability and telemetry tools.
Observability tools by what they collect: metrics and dashboards (Prometheus, Grafana), logs (the ELK Stack, Loki), traces (Jaeger) and commercial platforms such as Datadog and New Relic, plus collectors, standards and error trackers like Fluent Bit, OpenTelemetry and Sentry.
| Tool | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Prometheus | Metrics | Open-source monitoring and alerting toolkit with time-series database. |
| Grafana | Visualization | Analytics and interactive visualization platform. |
| ELK Stack | Logging | Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana for log aggregation. |
| Datadog | SaaS Observability | Cloud monitoring and security platform. |
| New Relic | SaaS Observability | Application performance monitoring and observability. |
| Jaeger | Tracing | Distributed tracing system for microservices. |
| Loki | Logs | Grafana's log aggregation system that indexes labels instead of full log text to keep storage cheap. |
| Fluent Bit | Log collection | Lightweight agent that collects, filters and forwards logs and metrics. |
| OpenTelemetry | Instrumentation standard | Vendor-neutral APIs, SDKs and collector for generating and exporting metrics, logs and traces. |
| Grafana Tempo | Tracing | A scalable distributed tracing backend that stores traces in object storage. |
| Sentry | Error tracking | Captures exceptions and performance problems from applications with context for debugging. |
| Splunk | Logs and analytics | Commercial platform for searching and analyzing machine data, widely used in security and operations. |
| Zabbix | Infrastructure monitoring | Open-source monitoring of servers, networks and applications with alerting and visualization. |
| Nagios | Infrastructure monitoring | Long-established open-source host and service monitoring with plugin-based checks. |
